The Friendly Whales of San Ignacio Lagoon

This account is offered as an invitation for all to know the beauty of many fascinating earth creatures, especially our ocean inhabitants. As a celebration of the deep joy we felt during our adventure with the Gray Whales of San Ignacio, we invite readers to share our first-hand experience of the creatures of the sea and their surroundings.

This is not a scholarly book, although several of our group are professional life scientists. They have contributed perspectives enriched by their detailed study of oceans, marine and avian habitat. Suggestions for further reading are offered in our bibliography.

Our group, led by Michael Stocker, visited San Ignacio Lagoon in March 2018. Michael has been bringing groups here for the last 12 years.

Published in support of Ocean Conservation Research (OCR), a non-profit group of scientists, engineers, and ocean advocates, dedicated to improving the acoustic environmental health of the sea. OCR’s founder and director, Michael Stocker, led the adventure that is recalled in this book. All proceeds from this publication are dedicated to further the work of OCR.

This book was compiled by Barbara Madaras, a trip participant. It contains the work of fellow participants in the 2018 OCR Whale Adventure, as well as contributions from the 2016 and 2017 Adventures. Thank you to all contributors!
